DUNN TIRE RACEWAY PARK
Home of the U.S. Open & Mr. Modified events
The track opened in 1959 as a dirt track for its first four seasons, and it was paved for the 1963 season. NASCAR sanctioned the track during the 1974 and 1975 seasons. The 1/8 mile dragstrip, added in 1965, was incorporated into the oval track in 1976. The track was the first to have the Thermal Foam blocks ("soft walls") at the opening event of 1990 and many tracks have followed with that idea.
2008 will mark the running of the 20th Annual U.S. Open; it was started in 1989 by the late promoter Alex Friesen. It also includes an asphalt 1/4 mile inner track used by the T.Q. Midgets and the Mini Stocks. 1986 Super Stock (Late Model now) champion Jim Reid purchased the track prior to the 2004 season. Former 2000-2003 promoter Ralph Galluzzi leased the facility for its 50th anniversary season in 2008 and changed the name from Lancaster Raceway Park to Dunn Tire Raceway Park; he made the Late Model and Super Stock classes "special features" at the oval track along with making changes to the drag racing program. Camping is allowed. Elevation is 600 feet.
