ARCA RE/MAX SERIES LAKE ERIE BOUND IN EARLY AUGUST

The ARCA RE/MAX Series returns to Pennsylvania Friday, August 5th for the ARCA 200 at Lake Erie Speedway, event no. 17 of the 23-race season schedule for the 53-year-old nationally touring series.

The 200-lap race marks the third appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series to the state of Pennsylvania in 2005, as ARCA made two trips to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pennsylvania earlier in the season.

Over the years, ARCA has formed a very positive relationship with Pennsylvania. In June, the state honored ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran Bobby Gerhart for his dedication to motorsports. Gerhart, a Pennsylvania native, has won ARCA’s 200-mile season opening event at Daytona International Speedway three times. The state of Pennsylvania has since formed a motorsports initiative to increase auto racing appreciation and awareness within the state. Gerhart is expected to enter the Lake Erie event.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series first began racing at Lake Erie Speedway in 2003. Since the inaugural event, six-time ARCA RE/MAX Series champion Frank Kimmel has won both events, but not without some serious challengers.

In 2004, Kimmel held off a continual parade of hungry racers, including Kyle Krisiloff and Brent Sherman, to win the event. And, in 2003, Kimmel passed Billy Venturini on the last corner of the last lap after spinning twice during the race, winning the inaugural ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Lake Erie.

With a stellar field of drivers already pre-entered, this year’s Lake Erie race promises to be just as exciting. Kimmel, in the Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford, Joey Miller, in the Country Joe Homes-Eagle Creek Aviation Dodge, Chad Blount, in the Foretravel Motorhomes Chevrolet and Chad McCumbee in the Fast Track Driving School Chevrolet are just a few names to look out for at Lake Erie.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series rolls into Lake Erie Speedway Friday, August 5, with practice scheduled for 2:30pm and Pork Pole qualifying slated for 5:15pm. The ARCA 200 at Lake Erie Speedway starts at 9:00pm.

Tickets to the event are available by contacting Lake Erie Speedway (814) 725-3303, or by visiting the Lake Erie Speedway ticket office at 10700 Delmas Drive, North East, PA 16428.
