MARK BLISS, STEVE KREITZBENDER EACH TAKE SIXTH HOLLAND VICTORIES OF SEASON ON SATURDAY

Holland, NY: Mark Bliss of Arcade, NY and Steve Kreitzbender of Springville, NY stayed on top of their respective divisions' points chases, as each notched victory number six of the season at Holland Speedway on Saturday evening. Bliss motored to the win in the NASCAR Sunoco Late Model Pro Stock main, while Kreitzbender tallied the top spot in the Pro Modified go.

In other Holland action on Truckers Appreciation Night, Jerry Kosmowski of Buffalo, NY took win number four of the year in the Charger main, Mike McDonald of Perrysburg, NY survived a rugged race for the win in the 8-cylinder strictly stock Challengers, while Mae Urban of Cheektowaga, NY rolled to her first win in the Queen Bee division, and Wayne Fisher of Depew, NY did likewise in the Figure 8 Car main.

In the 40 lap Late Model Pro Stock event, Mark Bliss was able to negotiate a lap 1, turn 2 scramble in his Kayak Pools/Patrick Development/Alp Steel Grand Prix to move from his tenth starting spot to fourth, then took advantage of a lap 7 re-start to outpower Jeff Brown for the lead. Once out in front, Bliss would never be headed, although a re-start with just two to go gave him a scare, as Brown made a serious run alongside. However, Bliss was able to re-establish command on the final go-round for the win, backing up his win of a week earlier. Brown had his best race of the season to claim second, while Eric Sanders also had his best outing of the season, never dropping out of the top four and placing third in the final run-down.

Steve Kreitzbender rolled his Bar-Chel/Rendell Logging/PitStop Pizzeria mount by Randy Jazembak for the top slot on lap 5, then drove a steady, conservative race to hold a 10 car length margin of victory at the checkers in a race slowed by but a single yellow flag early in the event. The win was Kreitzbender's third straight. Dave Hannahs and Chuck Anderson engaged in a spirited duel for second place throughout the second half of the race, with Hannahs prevailing in his best finish of the season.

An incident in the battle for second place with just five laps remaining set the stage for the outcome of the 30 lap Charger main. Rob Miszczak had a substantial lead margin over Marty Hughes and Jerry Kosmowski, when lap 25 contact between Hughes and Kosmowski resulted in a turn 3 Hughes spin and a subsequent yellow flag. Track officials deemed that the incident was precipitated by Hughes, so that Kosmowski was allowed to hold position on the restart. Kosmowski worked his Delavan Auto Parts Olds to the outside of Miszczak, and completed a pass on lap 28 to race on to the victory, adding to his points lead advantage over Miszczak, who had to be content with a second place finish. Tim Welshans drove a steady race to finish third.

Mike McDonald raced his self-sponsored Monte Carlo by Rich Hoch for the top spot of the 25 lap Challenger feature on lap 17, then survived numerous re-starts in a caution-filled feature race. Points leader Rick Roth drove to a battle-scarred second place finish, while early race leader George Urban held on to grab third.

Earlier, George Urban was celebrating in victory lane with wife Mae, as Mae Urban earned her first Queen Bee feature race win. Mae battled by Lisa Loffredo for the lead on the opening lap, then kept her 104 Sandblasting and Painting Mazda at the point for the rest of the 20 lap event. Sarah Shisler and Kim Marzec battled to the checkers for second, with the two making contact as they crossed the finish line, and second place Sarah bouncing off the concrete.

Wayne Fisher jumped into the lead at the opening green of the 12 lap Figure 8 car main, and took advantage of a lap 8 scramble at the "x" involving his closest pursuers to open up a big lead in the closing stages -- the win was Fisher's first ever feature race victory. Sharon Hughes tip-toed through the tangle to place second, while points leader Greg Urban finished third.

News and Notes -- Eastern New Yorker Chris Ross made another rare Holland visit, driving the Don Foor Late Model to a fourth place finish ... Marty Hughes, Nick Schaefer, and Kim Marzec made their returns from Florida after the tapings of the early competitions for the next round of SpikeTV's "Carpocolypse" -- the SpikeTV cameras will be at Holland over the next few weeks to record preparations for the next rounds of the North vs. South match ... Former Holland Late Model champ Eldon King, Jr. made his first start of the season, shaking down a team car for son Eldon III in preparation for next month's Budweiser 100 -- both Kings were involved in feature race skirmishes, but recovered to cross the line in sixth and seventh positions.

The Pro Modifieds will be featured in a 50 lap special on Saturday, August 20th. This event replaces the Pro Mod Twin 25's on the original schedule. The NASCAR Sunoco Late Model Pro Stocks, Chargers, Figure 8 Cars, and Pro Fours will also be on the card, as will a special "to be announced" SpikeTV related event. Spectator gates will open at 5:15 pm, with racing getting underway at 7:15 pm.
