ED SULLIVAN CAPTURES SCHOOL BUS FIGURE 8 RACE AT HOLLAND "CRASH-A-RAMA"
Holland, NY: A three-wide lap pass for the lead proved to be the move of the race for Ed Sullivan, as the Buffalo, NY driver raced on to the victory in the full-sized school bus Figure 8 race, the featured event in "Crash-A-Rama, Round 2" at Holland Speedway on Saturday evening.
Sullivan squeezed by early race leader Tommy Galston and a lapped bus on the 6th circuit, and held off the challenges of Jason Adams for the victory. The event, scheduled to run 12 laps, was curtailed after 10 laps after a violent collision at the "x" between Galston and "Raybo" of Spike TV fame.
In the 25 lap Hornet feature, Jason Wozniak had the lead, lost it with eight to go, regained it with two to go, lost it on the last lap, but regained the top slot after post-race tech inspection. Following Wozniak in the official top five finishing order were Bruce Taylor, Bill Mauerman, Bill Lutz, and John Conte. 26 cars started the caution-filled race.
Mae Urban steered to her second Queen Bee win of the season, battling under Laura Yandricha with just two to go in the 20 lap main. Points leader Yandricha, still looking for her first win of the season, had to be content with a runner-up finish, while Mary Place took third.
In other Crash-A-Rama events, Rich Perkins raced to an easy win in the 12 lap open comp Figure 8 Car race, then teamed with Jay Murphy to win the Blindfold race (Murphy drove while blindfolded with Perkins as the passenger giving driving directions). Jason Wozniak added the win in the 30+ car, 12 lap Flagpole race to his earlier Hornet division victory. Don Roesch backed his way to the Reverse race win, and Tim Haniszewski, Jr. survived to take the honors in the Mini Van demolition derby.
