INFORMATION AND PHOTO HELP NEEDED FOR STOCK CAR RACING BOOK COVERING THE WNY & NW PENNSYLVANIA 1950S ERA
Florida resident Ford Easton, the man who has spearheaded the Cuba Lake Raceway Reunions in recent years, is in the process of writing a stock car racing book documenting racing during the 1950s in Western NY and Northwest Pennsylvania.
This book will cover tracks from Chemung Speedrome east of Elmira to Stateline Speedway at Busti, PA in the west, and north to Ransomville Speedway in Niagara County, down to Civic Stadium in Buffalo, and east to Lancaster, and down the Finger Lakes with its many tracks and on to Ithaca-Dryden Speedway also. Some will have more extensive coverage than others naturally due to information that is available from those days. From my research, 40 tracks operated in these areas of the two states at some time during the '50s.
People 50 years from now would be hard pressed to gain knowledge of all the tracks, their stories, the drivers and their stories, and all the great fun and excitement we, as fans, had back then and this needs to be put in writing so they in 2050 and beyond will know what a wonderful time this was for stock car racing in our part of the country. This book is being written for these folks, but also for all of us that are still here and will enjoy reliving those great years of the '50s.
I need lots of help getting all this information and photos together for the book and would really appreciate any photo and information that you can provide me for use in the book. I have a computer and scanner that I use to scan the photos that you loan to me, and then I'll send them right back to you. It is unbelievable the help I have already received with photos and old newspaper clippings from a number of you since you learned of my doing this "documentation" in the form of a book.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
